Periodontist
Duties and Responsibilities: A periodontist is a dentist who
specializes in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease, and
in the placement of dental implants. Periodontists are also experts in the
treatment of oral inflammation. Periodontists receive extensive training .They
are familiar with the latest techniques for diagnosing and treating periodontal
disease, and are also trained in performing cosmetic periodontal procedures.
Periodontists often treat more problematic periodontal cases, such as those
with severe gum disease.
Salary: $103,000 – $203,000
Education: you need to get a bachelor’s degree in chemistry,
biology and continue with four years of study in dentistry school where a DDS
(Doctor of Dental Surgery) degree or DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine) degree is
earned; the dental school must be accredited by the American Dental
Association. After dentistry school, a student periodontist completes three
additional years of study to specialize in periodontics and receive a Ph.D.
Licensing.
Reflection: [Personally I would not like to be a
Periodontist because I hate the dentist I can’t deal being leaned over and
inside someone else’s mouth. It is not of my interest.
